The Story Of Alleyway Grill

Tucked into the heart of downtown Evanston, Alleyway Grill is a new restaurant from husband-and-wife chefs Beverly Kim and Johnny Clark, created with a simple idea: celebrate the food, flavors, and spirit of the Midwest.

Located within the historic Varsity Theater building and opening onto Evanston’s Bookman’s Alley, Alleyway Grill brings a fresh perspective to Midwestern cooking. The restaurant reflects the places, people, and traditions that shaped Beverly and Johnny — from Beverly’s upbringing in Downers Grove to Johnny’s Midwestern roots in Cincinnati.

The menu is built around seasonal ingredients and the character of live-fire cooking. Guests can expect vegetables, handmade pastas, seafood, responsibly raised meats prepared over an open flame and in a Spanish oven, along with modern American desserts.

After years of creating restaurants inspired by their Korean and Ukrainian heritages, Alleyway Grill represents something deeply personal: a chance to explore the Midwest they know and love, while creating something entirely new for the Evanston community.

Alleyway Grill is a place to gather, eat well, and enjoy the alleyway just a little longer.
